Thadd

We would 1st like to thank you for taking the time to do this interview with us; we know your time is very valuable. Please give detailed answers where possible, we like to give our readers a full dose of information, not watered down.

Let's begin with the basics; you know in case someone in the universe doesn't know who you are, (LOL) What's your name, rank & serial #, just kidding, but let's begin with your name

Who are you?  Where are you from?

Thadd:

What's going on world? It's It's It's Thadd Williams!!! I'm an artist on the come up who was born and raised in Columbia SC. Now I currently reside in Hampton VA. I've been here for the last six years.

Now let's get into why you chose to a career in music:

What is your motivation? What/who are your influences?

Thadd:

My motivation is pushing myself creatively to be the best artist/emcee that I can possibly be. I'm definitely motivated to break down barriers and exceed expectations. Music is like my sport so I don't do this to be a second string player. Starting isn't even good enough. I do this to be a franchise player!

Real life situations and circumstances influence me more than anything. I feel that if you haven't been around it or been through it you can't portray those images in your music. Anybody that's making good music influences me. There are too many artists to name but I'm a student of the game so you can hear a lot of variety in my rhymes.

Really picking your brain now:

What are your thoughts on the direction of Hip Hop today?

Thadd:

My thoughts on Hip Hop today are it's a double edge sword. On one hand you have a lot of watered down music that gets exposure, which makes it a little tougher for lyricist to get heard. Then on the other hand Hip Hop today has provided so many other opportunities for artists to start new endeavors. It's not about just being an artist these days. Hip Hop has birthed entrepreneurs and businessmen. So overall I'm pretty happy about the game these days.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting a music career?

Thadd:

I would tell whoever that you really have to have a love for this music. If you are expecting overnight success go find another occupation. Do your research and read books on the business. Last but not least you have to invest in yourself if one day you expect a label to possibly invest thousands or millions into you.

Do you think that some of the music out today has lost its originality?

Thadd:

Absolutely! I think the majority of music today has lost its originality. Nowadays artists trace each other so much that they start to sound the same. It's nothing wrong with talking about some of the same things or similar experiences that you go through, but tell them from your perspective. If you're not drug dealer but you grew up around drug dealers be creative enough to tell your story from that standpoint. Not only does music today lack originality but it also lacks creativity.

How do you think it can come back to its roots? Do you think it can?

Thadd:

Honestly I don't think it will ever be the same. But that's not necessarily bad thing, Hip Hop started back in the early 80's, it's 2010 so change and growth is inevitable. The only problem I have is when we start substituting what's real for what's not. I don't even think we've seen a quarter of where Hip Hop can take us in the future.

Your projects:

What are you currently working on now?

Thadd:

Right now I am currently finishing "Radio Killa 2" hosted by DJ Precise. That will be release at the end of January. Shortly after that I will be releasing "Operation 2010" with DJ D-Money early March. Also "The Blue Collar Code" and "First Name Basis" will both be released before the summer.

Can you tell us some of the artists/projects you had the most fun working on/with?

Thadd:

I had allot of fun working on the first installment of "Radio Killa" DJ Precise is a fun guy so we always have a blast when we get together. As for artists I have the most fun when I work with artists who are as hungry as I am because when we get in the studio the creative juices get to flowing. It's really fulfilling to watch a track go from nothing to a hit song.

We at HHH Magazine love to focus & highlight the good things people in the world of Hip-hop do in their communities, please share with us any community things you are currently involved in or have planned.

Thadd:

I actually have a few things that are planned. We're having a Mic Fiend Music Skate Off to help raise money for the kids in the area. We do Toys for Tots, we have a DJ Luncheon to show appreciation to all of the local DJ's in the area. Also we are planning a local Celebrity Basketball game in which everybody will donate money and we will give that to a charity in need.
